The System Does Not Make Sense

Finding meaningful work out of college stinks.

Students find respected jobs in two ways. Either they have close to a 4.0 and apply to well known brands or they know wealthy people who give them jobs. Most of us just settle. Settle for what is easy. Settle for what is comfortable. Settle because we don’t know what else to do.

Either way, the first job is probably meaningless. Chances are you will make jokes like “well, work is work,” “it pays the bills and I have a great time outside of work,” or the worst excuse, “it is a great learning experience.” It is surprising how easy it is to justify spending the majority of your day doing something that has no meaning to you.

The problem is most companies don’t care about hiring the right entry level people. They have dull entry level jobs for replaceable people. Then they wonder why they can’t produce results and retain talent. Simply put: these companies are dumb and we are not here to do business with them. Great companies are starving for great people. Because they know that building something great is entirely about the people. They are willing to spend resources developing talent.

The system is flawed. Does anybody really think that a resume and a couple of interviews produce great results? Seriously. But, for as bad as it is, it is the best we’ve got. Until now.

We are going to change this.

Remarkable companies deserve remarkable people. And Remarkable people deserve remarkable companies. We are committed to bring these two groups together.

But at the same time, average companies deserve average students and average students deserve average companies. GrouperEye is not designed for the average. There is nothing wrong with average, by definition it is what most students and companies are currently doing. Therefore, most of you, both companies and students, will not use this site. That is okay. In fact, that allows us to separate the remarkable and create a better match. For those of you who view entry levels jobs and students as a commodity, we recommend craigslist.com. It is the cheapest and most effective way to find good jobs and good students. Monster.com and careerbuilder.com are also effective although more expensive and cluttered.

For the rest of you, we look forward to developing a new system that champions original ideas. We will challenge the broken system and change the way young people find work. Thank you for your time and we look forward to having you on GrouperEye.
