The difference between hiring somebody that is really good or somebody that is truly great….the difference between working at an orgnanization that is good or an orgnaization that is provenly outstanding.
Firewood vs. gunpowder…..
A business is like a fire. The larger the fire the larger the business. You have your fire (business) and you want to grow the fire. Now it is your choice: do you add firewood or gunpowder?
Firewood is the safe choice. It will slowly grow the fire. It is easy to control. You know exactly what to expect.
Gunpowder is the risky choice. It may catch the whole forest on fire. It doesn’t always listen to you. You don’t know what to expect.
Firewood is easy to find, you can go to your local hardware or grocery store and pay $4.50 for a bundle. Buying gunpowder is more difficult to purchase. (Personally, I don’t even know where to start looking for it.)
There is nothing wrong with firewood, just don’t expect it to grow the fire like gunpowder. Gunpowder can ignite giant flames (ideas); it can produce tremendous heat (stimulation and creativity); it can result in the fire burning a long time (perseverance).
Take that chance…go with the gunpowder…what do you have to lose? Just keep a fire extinguisher and/or bucket of water close by.
